With an estimated lifespan of 100 years or more, gunite pools are the longest lasting type of pool by far. However, even properly built gunite pools may need to be renovated at some point in order to optimize their longevity, update their appearance, or enhance their efficiency.

  • High utility costs. A pool’s filtration and heating systems can consume a great deal of energy, thereby driving up your utility expenses. Fortunately, however, the latest systems are far more energy efficient than their older counterparts. For example, switching the filtration system to saltwater—a relatively new technology that relies on a biological process to generate natural chlorine—can help you save money on chemicals while creating a cleaner, less harsh swimming environment. Therefore, even if your pool seems to be in excellent shape overall, upgrading the filtration and heating systems is a great way to reduce your operating expenses while enhancing enjoyment of your pool.
  • Outdated style. If your pool is several years old, a few upgrades could help to drastically modernize its appearance. For instance, installing new tile and coping around the pool’s perimeter, updating the interior finish, and/or installing LED lighting can quickly give your older pool a contemporary, luxurious look.
